From overweight to obesity

The genetic link between diabetes and obesity found by a Franco-Japanese
The French and Japanese researchers have discovered that AMP1 gene abnormalities favors the appearance of the most common form of diabetes (type 2). This gene is responsible for the production of a hormone called adiponectin. Produced in fat tissue, it would have several roles: He

normalize blood fat in muscle and liver, but also
regulate the action of insulin.
The discovery could lead to the development of new treatments for diabetes and obesity. According to researchers, 30% of the genetic risk of diabetes is linked to mutations in this gene AMP1.
