What are the effects of smoking on diabetes?
Scientific studies have shown that smoking is an aggravating factor for diabetes:
- Increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
- Intensification of diabetes complications such as nephropathy or retinopathy.
- Negative effects of nicotine on feeding: gastrointestinal disturbances, concentration of fat around the abdominal region, attraction to rich savory dishes sauce and fat.
- Effects on insulin therapy: interactions with tobacco result in a significant decrease in the effectiveness of treatment. Tobacco causes a narrowing of the vessels which reduces the absorption of insulin. This effect for all insulins. It is advisable not to smoke between 30 minutes and one hour after injection.
