Description of peppermint (Mentha x piperita):
Mints are a genus of perennial plants of which there are several species. Peppermint itself includes several varieties are cultivated worldwide. The chemical compound is characteristic of menthol mint. Peppermint contains a greater amount than other species. So mostly from this plant that it produces the essential oil is widely used in food industry. It's also found as an ingredient in many pharmaceutical syrups and lozenges against cough and cold remedies, lotions, ointments or creams, antiseptics, local anesthetics, etc..

Properties / Effects / Hint:
essential oil taken internally - Relieving irritable bowel syndrome. Used with the essential oil of caraway, relieve symptoms of dyspepsia (digestive problems).

Precautions

Contraindications
* Babies. Do not give essential oil for internal use by infants under 30 months.

Adverse

* In some sensitive individuals, making very menthol lozenges or essential oil of peppermint can irritate the oral mucosa strongly.

Interactions
With plants and supplements
* Do not take along an iron supplement and peppermint, because it could interfere with the normal absorption of iron.

With Drug
* Antacids and drugs used to treat gastric ulcers can dissolve the coating of enteric-coated tablets or capsules. Take the mint tablets at least 2 hours before or after these medicines.
* The essential oil of peppermint, internal use, may interact with cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant used in organ transplant cases.
